Multicast Communication in a Class of Rearrangeable Optical WDM Networks

چکیده
| Multicast is the ability to transmit information from a single source node to multiple destination nodes. Current trends in networking applications indicate an increasing demand in future networks for multicast capability. We study multicast communication in a class of optical WDM networks with direct interconnects under some commonly used routing algorithms. Multicast communication patterns are classiied by the maximum fanout of a source node, and the necessary and suucient conditions on the minimum number of wavelengths required are determined for a network to be rearrangeable for arbitrary multicast communication. General results covering various multicast communication patterns from permutation to broadcast in linear arrays, meshes, hypercubes and rings are given.

Multicast communication involves transmitting information from a single source node to multiple destination nodes, and is becoming an important requirement in high-performance networks. In this paper, we study multicast communication in a class of optical WDM networks with regular topologies such as linear arrays, rings, meshes, tori and hypercubes. For each type of network, we derive the neces...

|We address the issue of providing eecient mechanisms for multi-destination communication over one class of lightwave WDM architectures, namely, single-hop networks with tunability provided only at the receiving side. We distinguish a number of multicast traac types, we present a number of alternative broadcast/multicast TDMA schedules for each type, and we develop heuristics to obtain schedule...
